WNT PROJECT UPDATE
Nov. 30, 2021 (World News Trust) -- Good morning. This is Francis Goodwin, working today from lovely Stockbridge in the lush Green Mountains of Central Vermont.
Thanks to everyone who attended or tried to attend yesterday's first WNT pre-launch public weekly editorial meeting.
The greatest value from the meeting is all the problems we encountered that provide a chance for us to address.
As Mickey Z. notes, we need to "streamline" our communications system. We've got Georgios on Skype with Chuck joining sometimes to collaborate. We've got some people on Slack, yet Chuck has notifications turned-off, so it's not a good place to reach him. We've got Google Chat.
We've got Facebook Messenger. We've got iMessage. We've got email (several accounts) and then, for giggles, we've got Asana, with these various platforms all haphazardly linked to fire fusillades of mostly useless redundant notices to fill our boxes.
Our editor, Ellen, checked in on Asana promptly at noon asking, "Where's the meeting?"
Only I didn't see her message until after the meeting ended.
I spent $10 on Facebook to promote the meeting. Two people clicked on the ad. I doubt the ad drew any visitors.
I had a nice chat with Joel Hirshhorn, who is offering to run his work on World News Trust. Joel is a vanity journalist with a libertarian-right viewpoint who publishes his stuff on mostly religio-fascist sites like Washington Times, etc. He has a penchant for drama and conspiracy. He is erudite and gentle. He doesn't want to be paid.
I created a personal WNT page years ago for him and published some of his stuff until I lost interest.
The biggest fuck-up was that I tried Google Meet to host the meeting. It turns out the free version of Google Meet doesn't record the meetings. Need Google Workplace for that, which we have, but I didn't create the meeting there.
No recording. No on-demand video.
I'm considering other options. Zoom maybe.
I'll do a short video update after this
Next editorial meeting scheduled for Monday noon.
PEACE
Tad
