Blainville’s beaked whales like to dive in deep offshore waters and are seldom seen.
Feb. 5, 2015 (TakePart.com) -- How lucky is it that when two young Blainville’s beaked whales made a recent appearance at the ocean’s surface, a professional with a camera was nearby?
According to local station KITV, photographer and diver Lisa Denning caught sight of these juvenile whales while on a boat tour off Hawaii’s Big Island last week.
Knowing that the species tends to be averse to humans, Denning told a reporter that she “slipped in the water and floated there” with her camera. The whales must have approved, because instead of moving off, they swam toward and slowly past her, and then remained near her for around 25 minutes.
