What has happened to our country when we are told to get over a stolen election and accept the illegitimate rule of a madman?

MN Against Bush -- Democratic Underground March 18, 2007
I believe it is wrong to lie a country into an illegal war of aggression. I believe it is wrong to violate the law and set up an illegal government eavesdropping program that monitors the calls of ordinary Americans. I believe it is wrong to hand out multi-billion dollar contracts to corporations like Halliburton, despite massive evidence that they are ripping people off. I believe it is wrong to leave tens of millions of Americans without access to health insurance, while the pharmaceutical companies and HMO executives live lives of excess luxury. I believe it is wrong for a man who claims to be president to go to a birthday party for John McCain while New Orleans is drowning. I believe it is wrong that the man who claims to be president can break the law without being sent to prison like any other American would be if they had commited a fraction of the crimes that George W. Bush has commited. I believe that it is wrong that I even have to mention any of this, why would any of this be controversial? What has happened to our society when it is has become acceptable to torture people, to lie the country in to war, to watch a major American city drown and not help, to deny people health care, to illegally spy on people, and to commit electoral fraud? What has become of our country when those who call for peace are labeled extremists, while those who call for massive death and destruction in countries that pose no threat to us are referred to as realists? What has happened to our country when we are told to get over a stolen election and accept the illegitimate rule of a madman? This is not the America we learned about in school.
It is time to take our country back. |
