I'm focused on my family.  What's your focus?

Francis Goodwin -- World News Trust managing editor

April 13, 2007 -- NEW YORK -- I'm focused on my family right now.  What's your focus?

I gotta' say things seem more than a bit nuts in the world today.  Between the environment, peak energy, the U.S. economy, a Constitutional crisis in the U.S. government, and the threat of nuclear war breaking out in the Middle East... there's no shortage of things to worry about, for any of us -- at least from my perch here in Midtown Manhattan.

Yet, it's events unfolding in the Middle East, and whether nuclear weapons are used, that trumps all other of my immediate concerns, except for the health and wellbeing of my immediate family.

When one of my children, or my wife, is ill -- that's the most important thing in the world to me.  That's where I focus my attention.  The way I look at it, I'd be mixed up if I didn't focus my attention on them.

So to the few readers who may wonder what's up -- that's it.  Nobody's paying me to edit the WNT site.  The entire WNT project is a labor of love for me.  Sure, hopefully it will pay off some day soon in a living wage for me and project participants.

To the several earnest WNT contributors who wonder what's up -- that's it.  The project is moving along.  I'm working to grow our page hits from 1,000 a day to 1 million a day.  A lot more people will see your stuff as we make that happen.  I ask for your continued patience and understanding.

To the core team (you know who you are), I'm taking the necessary steps to see our dream come to fruition.  We're going to have our own company with complete and unfettered editorial freedom to report the truth, however horrible or wonderful it may be.

Voltaire ended his delightful novel Candide with the protagonist, Pangloss, speaking these words of wisdom: "Il faut cultiver notre jardin" ("It is necessary to cultivate our garden").

  What's your focus?
